gondry.

despite really enjoying science of sleep and be kind, rewind, i had a problem with eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. i enjoyed the cinematic aspects of it, but i just hated the idea in it of erasing memories so much, then it severely impaired my enjoyment of it. i can watch films about racism, sexism, any sort of discrimination. i can watch torture scenes, i can watch people being beaten to within an inch of their lives on screen, but i can't watch the process of wanting to erase memories of a relationship. the idea just seems completely ludicrous. i can't imagine ever being in a situation like that where i would want to physically erase my memories of any period of time. even the dark memories of events that i wouldn't wish to repeat, i have learnt from and i would like to think that they make me a better person, or at least have helped me feel stronger. i know that the tone of the film states disapproval at such a process, but that's besides the point, it still really irritates me! argh.
