statue philia

at various places in the british museum until 25th january 2009. free.

the idea behind it was to integrate five contemporary sculptures into the general context of the british museum, so having them alongside much older works, and of different styles to challenge our conceptions of sculpture. anthony gormley, damien hirst, ron mueck, noble and webster and marc quinn contribute five completely different pieces that add something completely different to their surroundings.

it worked really well, the five pieces were in different areas of the museum, showing how modern sculpture links back to its past, and how it can take sculpture into the future.

anthony gormley's fantastic angel in the entrance of the british museum is awesome. actually awesome. it's bloody big and bronze.
